During a visit to a retail store in a large mall, I noticed four 5-gallon water jugs sitting on the floor in the back, large, heavy, always in the way, and likely excess inventory with no proper storage. When I asked a young employee who replaces them, she smiled and said they’re always in the way, and that only the manager handles it because they’re just too big and heavy. That moment made the real gap clear: customers deal with physical burden and daily friction, while water companies have limited visibility into what happens at the customer endpoint. Just-in-Time management is rarely in place, real-time data is often missing, and operations still rely on estimates and rigid, pre-planned routines.
